I hope to finish undone post by the end of this year.
Long time ago, I use to take pictures seriously.
After I became unable to draw pictures, I wanted something to express myself. I couldn't make something with my hands directly, so I picked photography,
Soon I found it was really interesting and difficult.
I got crazy about it.
My main camera was Nikon FM2.
People don't know much about digital, so when someone said "Dejikame is great!", the others ask him, like "Huh? Kochikame?".
A while later, I got my first digital camera. It was Casio QV-10A.
After using it, somehow I felt photograpy was becoming boring.
Lately I found that it was just because my situation, or "I" changed at the time.
Not digital camera's fault.
So... I'm trying to use my cell-phone often now, as the easiest digital camera.

This is just my idea, but the day starting taking picture is more unforgettable than the first drawing. Children can draw pictures with pencil and paper. But photography needs development. I guess most people start photography at club activity in school or after growing up. Except for the people who given own cameras from a young age, like Lartigue.

I think digital camera set those children; potential photographers, free. They don't have to ask their parents to have the films developed. Old time children had only one roll of film per a week(no, a month, or a season), but today's children could take pictures unlimitedly. It's like doodle! I'm curious about the photographs taken by them in the future! Then some of them would choose film. So excited.

I didn't like digital cameras. I thought the one made photography less enjoyable for me was digital, then I dropped interest in it gradually.
Now two years have passed since I started taking pictures again, I feel that I got a wrong idea. I can't think about it clearly yet, I'll finish it next time.

Chinese is difficult!! I think I can continue to learn it, but to explain it here is too hard for me. I don't know how to write about Kanji and its pronunciation...(someone tell me how to say Gakkuri がっくり in English).

I'm thinking of writing each one phrase here from the textbooks of Chinese and Spanish I bought last week, like today's new phrase. I'd not posted new entry for about a month, so I became to hesitate to come. If I have something to motivate myself, it would help me. 30代後半になってから、鏡に映る自分の老けぶりに驚くことが増えてきた。これは頬のたるみや毛穴が目立ち始めた事よりも考え方に柔軟性が無くなってきた事の方が大きく影響していると思う。健康を維持していくために体を動かしたり食事に気を使うのはもちろんだが、顔つきに関しては自分の内面を省みる必要がある。

社会人になったばかりの頃、上司や先輩と話していて「お前が言いたいのは〜ということだろう」「要するに〜だろう」と話の内容を要約されると、それ以上説明できなくなったものだ。自分の言いたいことの主旨を自分自身が把握していなかったため、「そうかもしれない」と納得してしまっていた。
30才前後になった頃、中年期にさしかかった年長者から「つまり〜だろ？」と言われると「そういう部分もあるかもしれませんが（本当は違うんだけど）私は〜とも思います」と意見を言うようになった。しかし、いくら相手に説明しても通じない。「この人、話が通じないな〜」と諦めた。
そして現在、彼らと同じ事をしている自分に気付くことがある。

「それって〜ってこと？」「ああ、それ〜でしょ？」
なぜ自分がこう言うようになったのか、理由を考えてみた。若い頃と比べ経験した事例が増え、人と話す際に相手が自分の知らない事を経験しているわけがないという無意識の決めつけから、自分の知っている何かに相手の話をスポン、スポンと当てはめようとしてしまう。これは話の理解が早くなる便利な方法である。しかし、相手が未知の話をしているなら、内容を正しく理解できず会話は永遠に平行線のままだ。
そして「ひょっとして相手が自分の知らない事を言っているかもしれない」と思ったとき、眩しさと同時に「受け入れがたい」という嫌悪感を感じるているような…。この頑なさが鏡を見たときに感じる老化なのだと思う。

友人達と映画の話をしていると、同じ映画でも見た人によって印象に残っているシーンが違っておもしろい。これは、それぞれの人が育ってきた環境や経験によって、注目する部分が違うから起こることだろう。映画に限らず、誰かが何かを発言するとき、自分にとって全く新しい情報が発せられている可能性がある…というより、ほとんどが新しい情報だと思う。ハイキングの後で印象に残った事を絵にして見せ合えば違う絵が並ぶだろうし、同じ機種のカメラで撮った写真ならもっと違いがわかるだろう。人の話を聞きたくないというのは、変化や刺激を恐れて新しい情報を拒否するのと同じではないか？他人を見ることで初めて自分が見えてくるなら、拒否している私は自分が見えていないのでは？

テーマが大きすぎて話がまとまらなくなったよ。まず、肉体的な老化の方を何とかするために体操でもしてみようっと。

I had tried not to use my Mac as much as possible during the holiday. I got a little worried about a test result "Internet Addiction 75%". It said I was seriously addicted. It was hard for me not to use it.
Is it really bad for our health? What is wrong!!

この連休中、できるだけパソコンを使わないようにしてみた。
「ネット依存度チェック」というテストをやってみたら「75％、重症」という結果が出て不安になったからだ。パソコンを使わない生活は辛かった・・・

Ever since I bought my sewing machine, browsing sewing books has become my pleasure. The models have distinctive expression on their faces, and it's depend on the target of the book. In the books for young women, the models are standing with troubled expressions. On the other hand, in the one for housewives, the models look shy and standing with their head down.

ミシンを買ってから、書店へ行くとソーイングの本のコーナーを見るようになった。ターゲット層によってモデルの表情に傾向があるようで興味深い。若い女性向けの本ではモデルが困った顔をしている。主婦向けの本ではモデルが恥じらい、うつむいている。

Apparently, a aharismatic woman Ayano Uchida is leading Hokkori Housewives(sorry I don't know the right meaning of Hokkori ). She is always smiling with head down and looks reserved in her books and magazines. There are various stars in each field.
By the way, someone tell me if you know the reason that the girls look troubled in their books. I couldn't find it.

I usually have a glass of vegetable juice in the morning(picture on the left hand), but I'd not been able to get it at the super market since last week. The fruity flavored one is more than enough there, but I want the one not sweet. I changed the time-zone of my shopping, but it's not there any time. I think that some TV program must have taken up it as one of topics. Cocoa, powderd gelatin and natto used to disappear in the same way before. I just have to wait people to cool down.

I thought that I hated math in my school days. Everyone said the math formulas we learned at school didn't work in our daily life, but now, can't deny the worth of it. Of course most of them are meaningless for me. but I use only one so often.( I don't know how to call it in English)

私は中高生の頃、自分は数学が大嫌いだと思っていたし、学校で習った数学なんて実際の生活には何の役にも立たないと誰もが言っていた。しかし、今は数学の価値を否定できない。もちろんほとんどの数式は私にとってどうでもいいものだが、ひとつだけ頻繁に使うものがあるのだ。

When I need to resize a box its width is 560 and the height is 340 into the one its width is 400, I use the formula.
560:340=400:x
560x=400×340
x=242.8571428
So, round off it and change the height to 243.

幅560・高さ340の四角形を、幅400に変えたい。その場合の高さを求めるとき、
560:340=400:x
560x=400×340
x=242.8571428
ということで、高さを四捨五入して243にする。

Especially, I used to use it everyday in analog graphic design before using computers became popular. Since we began to call layout paper work DTP, the formula disappeared in my daily life once. However it came back to me when I started to use the Internet frequently.
When I put a picture here, I set the width 400. For "favorite YouTube" on the right hand, it's 200.
..... while writing this entry, I got anxious, could it be that, other people know better ways??

特にコンピューターが普及する前の、グラフィックデザインがアナログ作業だった頃は毎日使ったものだが、版下作業をDTPと呼ぶようになってからはこの数式は一旦必要なくなった。しかしながら、インターネットを日常的に使うようになり復活した。ここへ画像を配置するには幅を400に設定し、右側のYouTubeは幅200。
…と、書いているうちに不安になってきたのだが、他の人たちはもっと良い方法を知っているのだろうか？

Museumrというサイトで遊んでみた。自分の画像を美術館で鑑賞されているかのように見せるという遊びである。

This is my A4-size craypas drawing, but looks like a F150-size oil painting.

I've begun to draw on my moleskine for moly_x_portrait8!

Moly_x is a group in flickr created by Marty Harris. It's the most exciting and inspiring group I've ever seen there. I joined the group last spring, but I'd not taken part in the group activity for 16 months. Because I was not sure that I understood the guideline written in English. However I've begun at last! The guideline is translated in 7 languages-English, Spanish, French, German, Dutch, Portuguese, Russian-, but Japanese is not there! I think of translating it and sending it to Marty. I'm sure many Japanese moleskine artists are in trouble with it, like me. It would take time, so I drew instant illustrations today.

flickr にMoly_xというグループがある。マーティ・ハリス氏によって設立された、私が知る限りflickrで最も刺激的なグループだ。
私がこのグループに加入したのは確か去年の春だが、英語で書かれたルールをきちんと理解しているか自信がなかったため16ヶ月も幽霊部員の状態だった。だがついに、活動に参加することにした。グループのガイドラインは現時点で7カ国語で書かれている。（英語・スペイン語・フランス語・ドイツ語・オランダ語・ポルトガル語・ロシア語）でも日本語がない！私と同じように読解力に自信がなくて尻込みしている日本人がいっぱいいるんじゃないだろうか？がんばってガイドラインを日本語に訳してハリス氏に送ってみようかな〜。
それには時間がかかりそうだから、手っとり早く説明イラストを描いてみた。

Make a new group with people living in different countries, or far states in the same country. Then each one gets a new Moleskine Japanese Fold Pocket Sketchbook(accordion).

複数ヵ国に住むメンバーで少人数のグループを作り、それぞれ自分用のジャパニーズアルバム・モレスキン（横方向に長い紙がジャバラにたたまれているもの）を用意する。

Draw/paint your picture on the first 2~3pages. Any medium is ok.

最初の2〜3ページに好きな画材・方法で絵を描く。

次のメンバーへ自分のモレスキンを郵送する。

既に描かれている絵の制作意図を尊重しながら、自分の絵を次の2〜3ページに描く。場合によってはそれらの絵に重なるように描き加えていく。描き終わったら、前回と同じように次のメンバーへ手帳を郵送する。各メンバーに与えられる期限は1ヶ月。

数ヶ月後、世界を旅したモレスキンが自分のもとへ帰ってくる。表紙を開いてみると、ジャバラのページがメンバー達の絵で埋め尽くされている！

The point attracting me the most is that the members have to use airmail, not e-mail. When Google Earth and Street View spread, some people around me made jokes like "We don't need foreign travels anymore!". We can chat with foreign people by SNS. But it could make us feel anxiety and the sense of getting narrower as time went on.
When I feel depressed and no way out, I can refresh my mind by reading moly_x guideline page. Yes, the world is still wide! If you feel that flickr is getting smaller, why don't you try reading it?

私がこのグループに最も魅力を感じている点は、作品のやりとりにEメールではなくエアメールを使うことだ。Google Earthやストリートビューの登場により、「もう海外旅行へ行く必要がないかもね」と冗談を言う人が私の周りには何人もいた。SNSの利用で異国の人達とチャットできるようにもなった。しかし時がたてば、世界が狭くなっていくような不安を感じ始めるのではないか？モヤモヤして落ち込んだ気分になった時、このmoly_xのグループ概要を読むと「いや、本当は世界は広いんだ。みんなすごく遠くにいるんだ」と感じることができる。flickrに閉塞感を感じている人はmoly_xのガイドラインを読んでみては？

On the other hand, Urban Sketchers is also inspiring. I'm not good at sketch, so still I don't do anything there, but I'll post my city sketches one day. Both groups have their blogs, so please visit there if you are interested.

また、Urban Sketchersというグループも大変魅力的だ。私は風景画が苦手なのでなかなか挑戦できずにいるが、いつかは参加したい。

I read about Bijin Tokei in asahi.com yesterday. It is a kind of clock gadgets showing pictures of young women, but remarkable that it renews photos every single minute. Now 1440 photos of 360 girls are used for 24 hours, but their goal is showing 1440 different girls' pictures in the clock.

昨日 asahi.comで美人時計について読んだ。女性の画像を表示させる時計ガジェットの一種なのだが、毎分違う画像に変更されていくというのがおもしろい。現在24時間を表示するのに360人の女性の写真を1440枚使用しているらしいが、最終的には1440枚すべて違う女性の写真にしたいそうだ。

I went to Odaiba to see the real scale Gundam last Monday, August 17th. I thought it wouldn't be so crowded, since holiday was over, but so many people were all over the place against my expectation.

My parents bought a PC and started Skype. I helped them to set up it and connect into the internet yesterday. As I left there, they gave me some melon buns. I thought my hometown had only monja restaurants and pork liver cutlet shops, but a melon bun stand opened several years ago is also pretty popular now.

両親がPCを購入し、スカイプを始めた。設置からインターネット接続までを昨日お手伝い。帰りにおみやげとしてメロンパンをもらった。私が育った町にはもんじゃ屋とレバフライ屋しか無いと思っていたが、数年前に開店したメロンパン店もなかなか好評らしい。

I hit upon the idea of using Nikon D80 to take oyatsu. I worried that it could act up because I'd not used it for a long time. Oyatsu means afternoon stacks in Japanese.

Nikon D80でおやつの写真をときどき撮ることにした。ずっと使っていなかったので、そのうち壊れるんじゃないかと少し不安になっていたんだ。

・・・メロンパンはもんじゃが入っているわけではないよ。普通味です。

I bought my iPod touch last winter. As is said widely, it's a palm-sized Mac, not only a music player. I can use the Internet and e-mail with wi-fi when I am out, and if I put my work as image data beforhand, I can show them to other people like easy presentations. I was very glad because it was eco-friendly, made works with paper reduced. I download apps for notes and task list etc. and enjoyed to use them.

昨年の冬、iPod touchを買った。巷で言われているようにiPod touchは単なるミュージックプレイヤーではなく小さなMacだ。無線LANを契約していれば外出先でもインターネットやメールを利用できる。なによりも、自分の制作物を画像データとして入れておけば、その場で簡単なプレゼンを行うことができる。「それまで紙に頼っていた作業をかなり代用できる、エコだ！」と大いに喜んでいた。ノートアプリやタスク管理・ショッピングリストのアプリをダウンロードして使うようになった。

However the new year started, I didn't buy a planner refill. I thought I just needed Calendar app instead, didn't write letters on paper. But it turned out to be wrong soon. I realized I didn't satisfy my desires to write notes and turn over the pages. At the same time, I read some articles about the Moleskine fans who use their Moleskines in unique ways at moleskinerie.jp. I decided to make my old Moleskine into a 3-notebooks diary refer to them and use with iPod touch already became essential.

年が明けてもスケジュール帳のリフィルを買わず、カレンダーアプリで代用した。もはや紙はいらないかも・・・と思ったのもつかの間、数ヶ月過ぎると「書きたい、ページをめくりたい」という欲求が満たされていないことに気付いた。
どうしたものかと考えていた時、モレスキナリー（モレスキンの公式ファンサイト）で紹介されているモレスキンの様々な使い方を見つけた。既にiPod touchは私にとって無くてはならない存在になっているため（依存？）モレスキナリーを参考に改造手帳を作って併用することにした。

It makes me feel strange, but it's ok to write on iPod touch for simple notes. Writing something on paper might become a kind of entertainments in the future.

奇妙な感覚だが、ちょっとしたメモならiPod touchに直接書くだけでじゅうぶんなのだ。これからは紙に字を書くということが一種の娯楽になっていくのかもしれない。

本当にビヨンセになったんだと思う

When I saw him on Mijonju's blog, soon I'm into his songs... I looked for his other videos and watched them many times. Some of his videos have something like a logo of a TV program, so he could be a comedian or an applicant. But I was moved very much.

この人が歌っている姿をMijonjuのブログで見て、ファンになってしまった。他のビデオもあるかYoutube内を探し、何度も見た。中にはテレビ番組のロゴのようなマークが表示されているビデオもあるので、ひょっとしたらこの人はお笑い芸人か番組に応募した人かもしれない。・・・が、どういうわけか私はとても感動している。

iPod touch 3.0 software

I couldn't type well with ipod touch keyboard, so thought about installing firemail at 115yen. But Yesterday I found the news about the new OS.... and, I bought it.(new features)
It's free for iPhone users, but iPod touch users(me!) need to pay 1200yen! Anyway, I got landscape keyboard.

iPod touchのキーボードでうまく文字を打てなかったので firemail という115円のアプリを入れようかと検討していたところ、昨日 touch に新OSを入れられるというニュースを見つけて・・・入れてしまった。（新機能はこちら）
しかし、iPhone ユーザーは無償なのに touch ユーザーは有償で1200円也！
横打ちキーボードは使えるようになったんだけど。

I took pictures of negative film through the light of my Macintosh with my cell phone, and then, turned the pictures into positive images with the conversion function. I thought "Oh.., I'm stupid. What have I been doing until now." I realized that sticking to printing on photographic paper made me away from photography itself. I decided to start negative scanning, instead of dark room work.

ネガをMacの光に透かして携帯電話で撮り、画像変換機能でネガポジ反転した。「あー、バカだ。今まで何やってたんだろう。」と思った。印画紙に執着することが、逆に自分を写真そのものから遠ざけていたと気付いた。暗室作業のかわりにネガのスキャンをすることにした。

Sometimes I, I mean not only me - everyone, give ourselves big assignments we can't handle. It makes us unable to move, finally we give up and become do-nothing. Don't you think it's ironic that it's because our ideal?

時に私は（というか誰しも）手に負えないほど大きな課題を自分に課してしまう。そして動けなくなって、ついには何もしなくなる。その理由が自分の持っている理想だなんて、皮肉ではないか。

I think it might sound strange, when I'm in trouble, I try to imagine the history of the earth. It begins with a big explosion; a big bang?, dinosaurs appear, and continues to space shuttles and starships. I notice that I'm just a very small living being which has a short life. The most of my worries are about my job and life. I tend to mix them with bad points of my character, and make it bigger in my head. It changes into huge, so I can't solve anymore. But relax, actually it's simple. I should do just what I can.

奇妙に聞こえるかも知れないが、私は悩んでしまった時、地球の歴史について想像するようにしている。大爆発から始まり、恐竜が現れ、スペースシャトルや宇宙船に続いていく。そうすると自分がほんの小さな生物で短い生涯しか持っていないということに気付く。自分の悩みの多くは仕事や人生に関する事で、その問題と自分の性格上の欠点を結びつけて考えがちだ。そうすると問題が大きくなりすぎて、もはや解決できないものになってしまう。でもちょっと待って、落ち着こう。実は単純な問題で、私はできることをやればいい。

Looking down the street from higher place, I can see other people and many cars. They look like ants and miniature cars. So various people are living on the earth. I thought "I want to draw pictures more, take pictures and print them more, but I've not finished my job. I want to buy photographic paper, but I need to get craypas varnish." It's impossible to get all.
Negative scanning would make me take pictures more. Then I could feel like doing darkroom work for some good pictures. I've taken pictures and developed only. It was meaningless to put them into the folder before seeing inverted images for several months.

高い場所から通りを見下ろすと、車はミニカーに、人はアリのように見える。いろんな人が生きていると思う。もっと絵を描きたいし、写真を撮ったり焼いたりしたいし、仕事が終わってないし、印画紙買いたいけどクレパスの定着スプレーも買わなきゃ〜・・・と思っていたけど、できるわけない。
ネガをスキャンすることで逆にもっと写真を撮るようになるだろう。そして「これは焼きたい」と思える写真が出てくるかもしれない。ここしばらく現像したらネガをファイルに収めて終了していたので、正像を見ていなかった。・・・これは意味がない。

----- the worst version is the time when I don't have the capacity of thinking about the history of the earth. So I will put something like a trigger in my desk. It's a picture of my space suit so far! I designed some, but not enough. I need more.

・・・最悪なのは地球の歴史を思いつかなくなるほど深刻な時だ。そのために何か目印をデスクの前に貼っておく事にした。自分用の宇宙服がいいと思った。いくつかデザインを考えたけど、まだまだ気に入らないのでもっと考えよ。

Olympus Pen EE-3, fuji neopan sss

I got a secondhand film loader a little while ago. Unexpectedly some of very old film was inside of it. The note written on the bottom says that the previous owner loaded Neopan SSS with it in November, 1983, when I was 11 years old. I used the film with Olympus Pen EE-3, and then developed with D-76 which was available at that time. Opened the lid... negative images were there. Fun! The whole roll seemed to have been exposed by aging, but I was pleased.

少し前、中古のフィルムローダーを買った。なんと予期せずとても古いフィルムがいくらか入っていた。底面に書いてあるメモを信じるなら、以前の持ち主は私が11才だった1983年にネオパンSSSを詰めたことになる。そのフィルムをオリンパスPenEE-3で撮り、手元にあったD-76で現像してみた。ふたを開くとちゃんとネガ画像が見えた。経年劣化でフィルム全体がカブり気味だけど、嬉しかった。

a photo book of the Big Issue Vendors

My friend Hideaki Takamatsu will publish his photo book of The Big Issue Vendors "STREET PEOPLE". I can imagine it surprises many people at bookstores, even though I've just looked through its flyer and the ad card. Because it's not the one which exposes how hard life homeless people are forced.

友人の高松英昭さんが雑誌ビッグイシューの販売者を撮影した写真集「STREET PEOPLE」を出版する。私はまだ宣伝用チラシやハガキを見ただけだが、この本を書店で手に取った人達が意外に思うだろうと予想できる。この写真集はいわゆるホームレスの人々が強いられている過酷な生活を見せるためのものではないからだ。

Takamatsu has been shooting homeless people for more than a decade. He showed me the pictures of them at the day we first met. They were very serious and typical photojournalism. I couldn't see it without feeling his anger against social contradictions.
10 years later, I saw his new works appeared in a magazine Sekai, issued in December 2006, and I realized that I'd stereotyped him as one of the photographers who take homeless tragically. He was still shooting street people, but there wasn't sadness in the pictures. Changed into colored from B/W, they were filled with bright colors, like pink and yellow. He showed us the portraits of ordinary peoople whose lives are slightly different from us.

高松さんは長い間ホームレスを撮り続けている。私達が初めて会った時も、公園で生活する人々の写真を見せてくれた。それは典型的とも言える硬派な報道写真であり、若者が社会の矛盾に対して抱く怒りに満ちていた。
しかし10数年後、雑誌「世界」（2006年12月号）に掲載された高松さんの写真を見た時、私は無意識のうちに彼をホームレスを撮る人という型にはめて見ていた事に気付かされた。被写体は以前と変わらず路上生活者だったが、写真から悲壮感が消えていた。写真は白黒からカラーに変わり、ピンクや黄色など明るい色が溢れていた。そこにあるのは自分とは少し違う行き方をしている人達のポートレイトだった。

All the models of STREET PEOPLE are the Big Issue vendors. It's cool and cute that they are posing wearing the vendor's ID card.
What happened to him? The friendship he's got after long years made his attitude changed, or he's trying to remove the prejudice against homeless? I can't get to the answer, but I'm sure it makes us feel that a lot of people are living in Japan like each of us.

今回出版される写真集のモデル達はみな雑誌ビッグイシューの販売者だ。身分証を首からさげポーズを撮る姿はバッチリ決まっていてかっこいい。長い年月を経て培った信頼関係が高松さんの写真を変えたのだろうか。または私達が持つ先入観への挑戦なのかもしれない。本人に直接聞いていないので真意はわからないが、日本のどこかに自分と同じように生きている人達が大勢いるんだと思わせてくれる作品だ。

The Big Issue doesn't accept the subscription, because its purpose is giving homeless people a chance to work. They sell 1 at 300 yen and get 160 yen as their income. Please buy Big Issue from the vendors. You can also support them through The Big Issue Japan Foundation. I registered as a Sleep-Tight Member(¥5,000/year).

雑誌ビッグイシューは定期購読を受け付けていない。販売者が路上で1冊300円で販売、売り上げのうち160円を彼らの収入とすることが目的だからだ。同時にビッグイシュー基金というプロジェクトも存在し、一般の人々も販売活動を支援することができる。私は年会費5,000円のぐっすり会員に登録してみた。

The special exhibition is being held in Osaka now. They are going to have a talk show of Takamatsu and homeless people on the last day. Please visit the show if you are intrested.

It was a good thing that I held it in the underground passage of subway, because I could hear a lot of voices let out carelessly from the people who were walking there. If I was in an art gallery, most people wouldn't say real feeling. And moreover, I wouldn't have been able to meet the people who were not interested in art. When they said something about my drawing, I listened to them secretly from behind the pillar. Some people said "She had drawn self-portraits every day for a year, it's great idea!", and others dispraised. Like "She could do it because she must love herself too much."
Those voices didn't make me confused, inspired a lot instead.
cute/scary, fun drawings/poor skills, has a strong will/narcissistic....
They were really precious.

個展の会場を地下鉄の連絡通路にして良かったと思う。もし通常の画廊でやっていたら聞けないような、通りすがりの人達が無意識に言っている言葉を聞けたから。それに美術に興味のない人の前に自分の作品を出す機会はなかなか無い。道行く人達が私の絵について何か言い始めると、私は柱に隠れてこっそりそれを聞いた。「１年間も毎日自画像を描くなんて、すごい発想だね」という人もいれば、「よほどの自分好きだから続くんだよ」とこき下ろす人もいる。それらの声を聞いて落ち込むどころか、とても刺激になった。
「かわいい」と「こわい」、「面白い画風」と「へたじゃん」、「意思が強い」と「ナルシストっぽい」....
こういった意見を聞く機会は貴重だと思う。

Actually I'd not drawn nor painted for about 15years. When I was 21 years old, I became unable to draw pictures, and then left the art university. I tried to do it again and again, but I couldn't. So for me, it's a miracle that I do drawing now.

実は、私は15年ほど絵を描いていなかった。21才の時に絵を描けなくなって美大を中退し、その後なんども描こうとがんばったが描けなかった。だから今自分が絵を描いているなんて奇跡のように感じる。

I appreciate you giving your comments on my work here and in flickr. I couldn't keep it up without your encouragement. Now I think I'm ok. I'll get by!

I went to 18 art galleries in Ginza-Kyobashi area today. Most of them have an information bord or put many brochures on the stool. I asked them to lay mine together. 17 of them said ok! I was glad, because I thought more galleries might reject it.

銀座・京橋地区の画廊へDMを置いてもらいに行きました。18軒にお願いし、ほとんどのギャラリーで束で置くか、掲示スペースに貼るかしていただきました。もっと突っぱねられると覚悟して行ったのでとても嬉しかったです。

Japanese slang?

A while ago, my friend and I were talking about fast growth period of Japan in Showa era. I said "右肩あがりでイケイケどんどん". If you were not Japanese, you wouldn't understand. Maybe it's a slang. 右肩あがり/ migi kata agari is an idiom which means ever-increasing. "イケイケどんどん/ ike ike don don" is, I'm not sure but, just a phrase to dare someone to do something. Like "Go! Go!"?

ちょっと前、友達と昭和の高度成長期について話していた時「右肩あがりでイケイケどんどん」と言って気がついた。これはスラングですよねえ。日本人じゃなかったら意味わからないね。「右肩あがり」は急激に伸びるという意味の慣用句で「イケイケどんどん」は「行っちゃえ行っちゃえ〜」というかけ声？自信が無いけど。

I went to a 100yen shop Daiso today, and found a canvas paper pad. It has 5 sheets per a pad. I'd ever used canvas boards..., yeah! I decided to try it. After drawing today's self-portrait, I felt so fine. It's a bit strange, but I thought I'd not gotten such a satisfaction like that for a long time, though I draw pictures everyday.

今日ダイソーに行ったらキャンバスペーパー(5枚綴じ)が売っていたので購入、今日の自画像に使ってみた。久しぶりに絵を描いた！という達成感を感じた。毎日描いているのにね。

I ordered a cool photobook. The author is Black Opal. When I was searching for information about film development on the web, I ran into his blog. His site is a fountain of knowledge! and his photograph is amazing. I started to read it on a daily basis. I was surprised because a man whose work I respect leaves his comments there very often.

かっこいい写真集を注文した。著者はとても為になるブログをやっているBlack Opalさん。現像について検索している時に偶然見つけたブログだけど、写真がものすごくかっこいい。毎日見るようになった。自分がすごいな〜と思っている人も頻繁にコメントを付けていて驚いた。すごい人同士ってお友達なのね。

Self Portrait February 09

Recently I've been trying dark color for my skin when I am drawing self-portraits. I used to use "flesh", but I use cadmium orange pale, burnt sienna, brown gold and aureolin now. I'm an asian, so I think it would be great if my skin is like marigold or sparkling orange in the picture, and as well it looks very natural.

Dermatograph

Some people around me seem to be interested in dermatograph which I use for drawing self-portraits. So I'll explain a little about it.

Dermatograph is originally a writing tool. The company selling dermatograph pencil says "It is even writable on skin, glass, metal and film". Dermato is a Latin word meaning "skin"(from the Q&A page, unfortunately they don't have an English page.

In Japan, lithograph artists use this dermatograph pencil instead of lithocrayons, because former is cheaper than latter. I majored in lithograph until I dropped out the university of fine arts. I was very familiar with dermato. So I was surprised when I saw my senior workers were using it to mark on film sleeve for printing directions at the design company which I joined just after leaving school. Then soon it became a tool at work for me.

when I went to Ito-ya last summer, I saw it on a shelf and came up with using it as drawing tool. At first I felt it was easier way than craypas, but becoming interesting. It makes me remember lithograph. The matière looks like it very much. It's fun! If I found more usages, it must become a big hit for me.
By the way, why they don't show it on their web catalog?

I'm an admin of a group Drawing: We do self portraits everyday in flickr. I have a problem. The members don't stay for a long time! Sometimes I feel sad, because it's becoming my stream. The word "everyday" could be pressure on the menbers. I don't care whether they do it everyday or not. I don't upload the picture everyday, though I draw them. I don't like scanning.
Actually, I wasn't an original member. I signed up to Flickr in late January 2008, I found the group and started drawing self-portraits since March. It had almost been in resting phase. Several months later, I felt like creating our group icon. I e-mailed the admin of the group. She replied to me that she made me one of admin, so I could add icon which I created.
I've not considered myself to be an admin, but maybe have to do something. I decided to leave invitations when I find self-portraits in other groups.

TV commercials had big influence. When I was 16 years old, Haseko Corporation was special for me. Because I liked their TV commercial very much. Every time it was broadcasted, I stared at TV intently, I bought Toshifumi Hinata's CD whose song used there, and fascinated paper crafts remembering the CM at Ito-ya in Ginza. But now, it's just one of general contractors for me.
Even allowing that I was purer than now and very ignorant, I can't deny the power of TV commercials.

In the end of 2008, I went to a ramen restarurant Ifu/ 威風 in Akihabara with friends. It's a controversial shop on the internet, but I like their ramen. There are a lot of tonkotsu ramen restaurants in Tokyo, so I drop in naturally. I don't remember the last time I had soy sauce base one. I thought it was good! Some people are saying their miso ramen doesn't have much taste and others are saying with butter topping is ok. By the way, a small Chinese restaurant used to be there...
